Throughout 2011 a new series of handbooks is being released that focuses on diversity from different aspects of organizational management, whether in the business, public or nonprofit/NGO sector. Each handbook encourages an inclusive approach to diversity and promotes it as a strategy that is closely linked to cost-effectiveness, increased profitability, social responsibility and sustainable development - rather than as a "must-do", which has characterized costly and unproductive diversity work for decades.
The POWER OF 10 Series is equally useful for people who are new to the world of diversity as for those with many years of experience looking for new development tools or inspiration. Each handbook is written to be easily understood by readers from all sectors and by those who have English as a 2nd or 3rd language. Busy people appreciate the get-to-the-point format of 40 pages or less developed around 10 steps or strategies intended to take the mystique and academics out of working with diversity. "10" further illustrates diversity's potential for exponential benefits if approached as a sustainable organizational strategy.
Author Gary Baker applies nearly 20 years of real-world diversity experience from business, government and nonprofits sectors, ranging from California's multicultural Silicon Valley to dynamic Stockholm, Sweden, with one of the highest percentages of war refugees in the Western world.

Author Gary Baker shares lessons from nearly 20 years of hands-on diversity experience at managerial levels. His background includes starting departments and serving as Vice President at two California banks where he developed profitable business solutions in response to tough anti-discrimination regulations, often in partnership with government agencies and nonprofits. As a Director at Deloitte & Touche, he was the subject matter expert in this field among 30,000 U.S. employees before moving to Sweden in 1999 - or, as he says, "back to the future" of rapid demographic and regulatory changes, similar to those he grew up and worked with in the dynamic California market. Gary lives in Stockholm where he manages his own diversity consulting company and is active in the nonprofit world. |
